Singer/Soutine The Stories of Chelm/A Puppet Trilogy According to Grand Falloons Artistic Director, Stephen Ringold, "The secret to making great theater is to surround yourself with brilliant artists, say yes to everything they do, and then take credit for it." For A VILLAGE OF FOOLS, the writer/director has: Gathered some of New York City's greatest vaudevillians. Contracted world-renowned composers Elizabeth Swados, Ilene Weiss and Kevin Schmidt. Adapted stories by Nobel Prize-winning writer Isaac Bashevis Singer... and Commissioned sets and puppets designed to invoke the fiery portraits and landscapes of the seminal post-expressionistic painter, Chaim Soutine. Our puppets range in size from two-foot cardboard cutouts to larger than life sized three dimensional figures! With a generous grant from Mr. Myron M. Kaplan & Dr. Annette Hollander, we have recently premiered A VILLAGE OF FOOLS at th Theatre For The New City in NYC.. We believe we have created a powerful synergy leading us to a vital musical theater populist yet spiritual, emotional yet intellectual. In the end, being vaudevillians and clowns, what we live for is comedy and joy and a real family audience. These fairytales of Isaac Singers offer us enormous possibilities for all three.
